A conference committee has agreed on a bill creating a state autism task force.
Senate Bill 138 establishes the task force, which will study issues affecting those with autism, such as the availability of services for screening, diagnosis and treatment.
The Senate accepted a House amendment to include a member from the Topeka-based Capper Foundation Easter Seals as a non-voting member, said Sen. Jean Schodorf, R-Wichita. Capper Foundation Easter Seals provides services to people with disabilities, primarily children.
As of Thursday afternoon, conference committee members continued to wait for a conference committee report, said Rep. Brenda Landwehr, R-Wichita. The committee report would be heard first in the House before advancing to the Senate for final consideration.
