The Senate Judiciary Committee introduced a bill on Wednesday that would amend the state”s concealed carry law to include hospitals and other health care facilities on the list of places where concealed weapons are not allowed.

Dan Morin of the Kansas Medical Society requested the bill.

Sen. Phil Journey, R-Wichita, a staunch supporter of concealed carry, predicted the bill would not get out of committee.

“There are some doctors and nurses who get off work late at night and it”s a long walk out through the parking lot,” he said.

Under current law any private business can post a sign prohibiting concealed weapons on its premises. The current law also bans concealed weapons in bars, the Kansas Statehouse and various other locations.
