Bob Corkins, chief legal counsel at the Kansas Department for Children and Families, has announced he will leave the agency to become director of the state Office of Administrative Hearings.
Corkins’ last day with DCF is scheduled for Dec. 1. He’s been with the agency since January 2011.
While at DCF, Corkins, 52, led efforts to expand the department’s anti-fraud unit.
Prior to joining the agency, he was well-known in conservative political circles for his activism and from the days when he was president and sole employee of the conservative Kansas Public Policy Institute.
He also served as state education commissioner in 2005 and 2006, a period that coincided with a State Board of Education’s decision to de-emphasize the teaching of evolution theory.
Corkins resigned after moderate Republicans and Democrats gained control of the state board in the subsequent election.
Beginning Dec. 2, Dave Davies will be interim chief legal counsel at DCF, according to agency officials.
