U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other national leaders are scheduled to attend a town hall meeting here next week to discuss ways to speed discovery and development of new cancer drugs.
The event, scheduled to run from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rock Hill Rd., also will feature Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg and former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt.
The event is intended to bring together senior government officials, leaders from the drug industry and venture capital industries, philanthropists and university officials.
The event is titled, “The New Role of Academia in Drug Discovery and Development.” It is being sponsored by Friends of Cancer Research and the University of Kansas Cancer Center with support from the Kansas Bioscience Authority, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Council for American Medical Innovation.
