Former secretary to be feted

The Kansas Department of Social Services will fete former secretary, Gary Daniels, at a reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 23 at the SRS Learning Center, 2600 SW E. Circle, Topeka.

Daniels, 63, retired Dec. 15.

Daniels was named director of psychology at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center in 1973. He served as PSHTC superintendent from 1979 to 2004, when he was named acting secretary, replacing Janet Schalansky. He was named secretary in 2005.

Daniels and his wife, Marcia, plan to move to their lakefront home in Grove, Okla.

“We plan on spending time spoiling our four grandkids,” Daniels said in an interview with the Parsons Sun.

Daniels has been succeeded by former Juvenile Justice Authority Commissioner Don Jordan.
