Seven Kansas restaurants were recognized Monday by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as part of her initiative to encourage healthy eating.
The restaurants that received the Dine Out Kansas Best of the Best awards were honored for offering healthy menu options.
“Eating healthy when dining out can be a challenge,” Sebelius said. “I want to thank these restaurants for helping Kansans make healthier choices.
I hope other restaurants will join them in offering healthier items on their menus so they too can be identified as being among the Best of the Best.”
Best of the Best restaurants must successfully pass their annual Kansas Department of Health and Environment inspection, offer a 100 percent smoke-free dining environment, serve healthy entrees, and offer menu substitutions to customers.
The award is good for one year and must be renewed annually by its owner.
Applications are reviewed and approved by KDHE.

Restaurants can nominate themselves or be nominated by the public.
