Governor schedules H1N1 flu summit

TOPEKA — Gov. Mark Parkinson and top health, emergency and education officials will host a summit here Monday to discuss response to the H1N1 flu pandemic.
The summit, which will include local public health, school, church and business leaders from around the state will be broadcast to six locations.
Scheduled to speak at the summit are Parkinson; Roderick Bremby, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment; Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, Adjutant General; Alexa Posney, education commissioner; Highway Patrol Supt. Terry Maple; and Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips, state health officer. Some local officials also will speak.
The summit is scheduled 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sunflower Ballroom at the Maner Conference Center in Topeka. The video conferencing locations are:
Concordia — Smoky Hill Education Center, 219 West 7th
Garden City — St. Catherine Hospital, Classrooms A/B/C
Hays — Fort Hays State University, Robbins Center, Eagle Communications Hall, One Tiger Place
Kansas City — University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas Life Sciences Innovation Center/Beller Conference Center, 36th and Rainbow Blvd.
Salina — Smoky Hill Education Center, 605 East Crawford
Wichita — Wichita State University Metroplex, Room 180, 5015 E 29th Street North
The event is invitation only.
So far, about 10,000 Kansans in 46 of 105 counties have been infected with H1N1, resulting in one death. But state health officials have predicted more than 1 million Kansans could become infected over the next two years.
