TOPEKA, Jan. 10 Senate Pres. Steve Morris, R-Hugoton, today named the members of a special senate task force he created to study health-care issues. The committee will not have power to introduce bills but will study issues ranging from expanded newborn screenings to expanded health insurance coverage and then report its recommendations to standing Senate committees, probably in February.

Members are: Sens. Jim Barnett, R-Emporia, chairman; Julia Lynn, R-Olathe; Pete Brungardt; R-Salina; Roger Pine, R-Lawrence; Roger Reitz, R-Manhattan; David Haley, D-Kansas City; and Laura Kelly, D-Topeka.

The task force is one of three created by Morris. The others will study K-12 education and higher education issues.
