Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Dr. Robert Moser is scheduled to discuss the agency’s ongoing interest in finding ways to integrate primary care and public health during a Wednesday appearance before Kansas Association of Local Health Departments.
Moser, a family physician and a pharmacist, will speak during the association’s mid-year meeting luncheon at the Courtyard by Marriott, 3020 Riffel Dr., in Salina.
KDHE hosted a summit on the concept last week, featuring a presentation by Dr. Bruce Bagley, president for TransforMED, a national organization that’s helping primary care practices develop patient-centered medical homes.
Officials said the department also plans to host six regional “stakeholder meetings” on the topic:
- June 26 – Wichita, WSU Hughes Metropolitan Complex
- July 1 – Chanute, Memorial Building
- July 8 – Garden City, Clarion Inn
- July 16 – Salina, Courtyard by Marriott
- Aug. 1 – Colby, City Limits Convention Center
- Aug. 6 – Topeka, Ramada Inn Convention Center.
“We are not talking about necessarily anybody getting absorbed by someone else,” Moser said during an April 23 conference call with health officials. “But (instead) how do we do a better job in our particular roles and responsibilities in times of decreased resources, and address the community needs.”
Almost 100 health officials have registered for the luncheon Wednesday.
