WASHINGTON, D.C., June 15 – The Public Health Accreditation Board has named Dr. Albert C. Gray as its first executive director.
“Dr. Gray”s vision and experience will be invaluable as PHAB shows public health officials and policymakers that voluntary accreditation will improve quality and accountability in public health,” said Kaye Bender, dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and chair of the Exploring Accreditation Steering Committee.
The 25-member steering committee, made up of
public health leaders, was instrumental in defining what the accreditation program will eventually look like.
Most recently, Gray was the executive director of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Previously, he served as deputy executive director for the Water Environment Federation, where he directed a governmental and regulatory agency advisory program and led the development of
voluntary water and wastewater utility accreditation programs.
According to the PHAB board, he has experience leading accreditation and certification programs in the fields of public water supply, sanitation, environmental science.
He has bachelor”s, master”s, and doctoral degrees in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has taught public health engineering at Pennsylvania State University, and conducted research sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service.
