The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services will unveil its proposed budget for fiscal year 2009 at the agency”s Oct. 19 stakeholders” meeting in Topeka.
Open to the public, the fall meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the SRS Learning Center near the intersection of Second and MacVicar streets.
The meeting also will be broadcast live via speakerphone to SRS offices in Kansas City, Lawrence, Overland Park, Manhattan, Salina, Emporia, Hutchinson, Newton, Winfield, El Dorado, Chanute, Parsons, Pittsburg, Colby, Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend. Hays, Liberal, Phillipsburg, Pratt, and Wichita.
At Larned State Hospital, the meeting will be in the dietary conference room in the cafeteria building.

SRS Secretary Don Jordan is expected to present a 20-minute overview of the department”s proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2008. Afterward, he will stand for questions. Copies of the proposed budget will be available.
Whether Gov. Kathleen Sebelius adopts the agency”s recommendation remains to be seen. Her budget will become public shortly after the Legislature convenes in January.
