Johnson County has hired a Sedgwick County official to head the agency serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the county announced Wednesday.
Chad VonAhnen is scheduled to start June 17 as executive director of Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS), according to the county.
VonAhnen comes to Johnson County from his role as director of public safety in Sedgwick County. Prior to that position, he led the county’s developmental disability organization.
The Johnson County position has been vacant since the beginning of the year, when Maury Thompson left to become assistant county manager.
Based in Lenexa, JCDS services more than 500 clients daily.
The county said it conducted a nationwide search for Thompson’s replacement and reviewed applications from more than 90 candidates.
The county said VonAhnen is a native of Des Moines who received a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of Northern Iowa. He received his master’s degree in public administration from Drake University in Des Moines.
