On Wednesday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Capital City Wellness (CCW) coalition will host a community-wide downtown Topeka health and wellness fair. The fair will be held on the south lawn of the Capitol and is open to downtown Topeka employees, including state employees, and the public.
The fair will feature more than 50 health and wellness groups offering educational resources, interactive screenings, prize give-aways and activities for adults and kids. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free screenings or assessments for blood pressure, blood sugar, blood lead, body mass index, resting metabolic rate, flexibility, body fat, balance, walking gait, stress, fitness, strength and more. Free healthy food demonstrations will take place at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Free fitness classes will take place from noon to 1 p.m. (12-12:30 p.m. Jazzercise, 12:30 – 12:45 p.m. Boogie, 12:45 – 1 p.m. PiYoTone). Fair attendees will also have the opportunity to donate old prescription glasses to those in need. The fair will highlight strategies to increase personal health and wellness in the settings where people live, work and play, including: health education, chronic disease management techniques, increased physical activity and access to healthy foods.
